Lessons from Personal Experience
Hi Guys! I’m Luba here Ukrainian matchmaker of 13 years and one of the co-founders of Heart Rocket, an international dating agency. With over 13 years of experience in the dating industry and a whole heap of successful marriages, I’ve learned a thing or two about what works and what doesn’t when it comes to dating.
Today, I want to share with you three low-value things men often do on the first date, which we’ve witnessed firsthand through our own experiences and feedback from both men and women. These behaviours can be major turn-offs for women, and so it is important to be aware of them so you make a positive impression on your first date.
- Being Frugal: The Pitfalls of Pinching Pennies
One common mistake some men make on a first date is being overly frugal. I’m not saying that you need to be made of money or spend a fortune on a date, but it’s important not to make your budget constraints too obvious. For example, when you’re looking at the menu, and you start calculating the cheapest meal options, it can be a major turn-off for a woman. She doesn’t need to know about your budget, and if you make it obvious that you’re trying to save money, you can send the wrong message.
In Eastern European cultures, where traditional gender roles are still prevalent, this behaviour can be incredibly detrimental. Ukrainian women, for example, are usually savvy with money due to economic constraints in their country. But even if you’re not dating someone from Eastern Europe, being frugal on a first date is generally unattractive. It can make a woman feel like you’re not willing to invest in the experience or that you’re not ready to step up and be a provider in the long term.
Now, I understand everyone has a budget, which is perfectly fine. But it’s important to set boundaries for yourself and not make it obvious that you’re being cheap. Avoid choosing the cheapest meal option or taking your date to a cheap coffee shop where she can only order the cheapest item on the menu. It’s not about wining and dining your date with an extravagant meal, but rather about showing her that you’re willing to invest in the experience and make her feel valued.
2. Talking About Money: The Taboo Topic on a First Date
Another low-value behaviour that men should avoid on a first date is talking about money. It’s a common mistake some men make, especially if they have a financial background or are have investments of some sort. But discussing money on a first date can be a major turn-off for women, regardless of cultural background.
In many European cultures, including Ukraine, discussing money is considered impolite. It’s not a topic that should be brought up during a first date, as it can make your date feel uncomfortable or even give the impression that you’re showing off. Remember, the first date is about getting to know each other, building a connection, and having fun. It’s not the time to discuss your stock portfolio or cryptocurrency investments.
Avoid pointing out how cheap things are compared to your home country or how much money you’ve made from your investments. It is unattractive, and some women can find this insulting.
3. Being Picky About Food Choices: Not the Time to Be a Food Critic
On a first date, it’s important to be mindful of your food choices and not be overly picky. Being too selective or critical about food can be a low-value behaviour that can turn off your date. For example, if you’re constantly sending back your dish, complaining about the taste or texture of the food, or making negative comments about the restaurant, it can be a major turn-off for your date.
In many cultures, food is an important part of the dating experience. It’s a time to enjoy good company, try new things, and share a meal together.
Being overly picky or critical about food can come across as rude or high-maintenance, giving the impression that you’re difficult to please or satisfy.
Instead, try to be open-minded and adventurous regarding food choices on a first date. Be polite and respectful to the waitstaff, and avoid negative comments about the food or restaurant. If you don’t like something, you can politely decline without making a big fuss about it. Focus on the conversation, getting to know your date, and enjoying the experience rather than nitpicking about the food.
Conclusion: The Importance of High-Value Behavior on First Dates
As someone in the dating industry for over a decade, I can’t stress enough the importance of high-value behaviour on a first date. It’s your opportunity to make a positive impression, build a connection, and lay the foundation for a potential future relationship. Avoiding low-value behaviours such as being overly frugal, talking about money, and being picky about food choices can go a long way in creating a positive experience for both you and your date.
Remember, it’s not about showing off your wealth or impressing your date with your financial prowess. It’s about showing genuine interest in your date, being respectful, and making her feel valued and interesting. Pay attention to what is important to her, listen actively to what she’s saying, and be present at the moment. Show her that you’re a gentleman who knows how to treat a woman with respect and make her feel special.
In addition, being aware of cultural norms and expectations can also play a significant role in creating a positive first-date experience. Different cultures may have different expectations regarding dating and relationships, so it’s essential to be mindful of these nuances and adapt accordingly.
So, the next time you’re going on a first date, remember these lessons from personal experience. Avoid low-value behaviours, focus on high-value behaviour, and strive to create a meaningful connection with your date. Doing so will increase your chances of a successful first date and potentially pave the way for a fulfilling and lasting relationship.
